【Basic Concepts】
♠Stakes and Decks♠
Difficulty of game are distinguished with a total of eight colours of stakes, while the basic difficulty is white stake. There are a total of fifteen types of decks, with four basic decks provided at the beginning of the game. Each deck has its unique restriction or enhancement conditions. Players can unlock more decks by winning matches at different coloured stakes, collecting a certain number of collections, or achieving victory with specific decks, having more challenges with more varied and higher difficulty gameplay.

♠ Jokers ♠
In the world of "Balatro," each Joker possesses not only a basic ability but can also be upgraded to enhanced editions such as foil, holographic, polychrome, and negative. These editions offer various enhancements, including additional chips, bonus multipliers, or even extra Joker card slots.
Jokers are categorized into different rarity levels: common, uncommon, rare, and legendary. Players can view unlock conditions in the collection catalog. Enhanced Jokers can be obtained by skipping blinds, drawing Tarot cards, or purchasing booster packs. The game features a total of 150 unique Jokers.
Pro tip: Don't assume the rarest cards are always the best! The key to maximizing card effectiveness lies in clever combinations. Mix and match deck characteristics, Jokers, and your personal playing style to trigger powerful chain reactions between cards!
【Consumables Slots】
A dedicated area exists for special card types such as Tarot, Spectral, and Planet cards. These cards are consumed and immediately destroyed upon use. The game starts with two basic consumable card slots, but this number may change based on deck restrictions or enhancements. Players can buy these cards from the shop or use them right after skipping a blind. Alternatively, players can purchase and keep them in the dedicated area for use during gameplay
♠ Tarot Cards ♠
The Tarot cards in the game are derived from the 22 real Tarot cards of Major Arcana in reality. Their design is inspired by the famous Rider-Waite Tarot Deck. Each Tarot card possesses unique functions and designs. These cards primarily serve to amplify the effects of other cards in the game. For example, they might upgrade Jokers in the player's hand to enhanced versions or double the player's current money, offering significant strategic advantages.
♠ Spectral Cards ♠
There are eighteen different types of Spectral cards. They possess more powerful effects than Tarot cards, such as enhancing all scoring levels of poker hands at once, or adding different coloured seals to the hand for strengthening effects.
Tip: Spectral cards pack a punch—but they come with a price. To harness their potent effects, you'll need to make sacrifices. This might mean destroying hand cards or Jokers, or even emptying your money. Do weigh your options carefully!
♠ Planet Cards ♠
Planet cards upgrade the scoring levels of poker hand rankings, such as flush, four of a kind, and two pairs. Once used, their boosting effect on the deck's scoring method persists throughout all rounds of the current game.
Tip: The game features twelve unique Planet cards. While nine can be unlocked easily from the start, three remain hidden. To unlock these elusive cards, you'll need to uncover special scoring methods for hidden hands!
【Vouchers】
There are thirty-two vouchers in total, with sixteen standard versions and sixteen enhanced versions (upgraded versions of the standard ones). The base price for each voucher is $10, but enhanced vouchers can only be unlocked under specific conditions. In the same game, players cannot purchase duplicate vouchers. Players must first purchase the standard version of each voucher before they can buy its enhanced version.
【Booster Packs】
Players can purchase booster packs for Jokers, Tarot cards, Spectral cards, Planet cards, and game cards from the shop, increasing the possibilities to enhance the abilities of various types of cards in their hand.
Although there are many types of booster packs, they are mainly divided into three tiers: "Regular Regular Pack" (priced at $4), "Jumbo Pack" (priced at $6), and "Mega Pack" (priced at $8). Their usage follows a similar pattern: upon opening, the system draws a random selection of cards (quantity varies by pack tier). Players then choose one or two cards (quantity varies by pack tier) to keep, while the rest are discarded.
【Card Enhancement】
Both playing cards and Jokers have different enhancement methods. Jokers can be upgraded to enhanced editions, while playing cards have three enhancement methods: simple enhancement, edition enhancement, and seals enhancement.
♠ Edition Enhancement ♠
There are a total of four type of edition enhancement: Foil (adds 50 extra chips), Holographic (multiplier increases by 10x), Polychrome (multiplier increases by 1.5x), and Negative (adds one extra Joker slot).
♠ Simple Enhancement ♠
This enhancement method has eight versions: Bonus Card (adds 30 extra chips), Mult Card (multiplier increases by 4x), Wild Card (playing card can be used as any suit), Glass Card (multiplier doubles, having a 1 in 4 chance of being destroyed), Steel Card (multiplier times by 1.5x when the card is in hand), Stone Card (has no suit or number, adds 50 extra chips), Gold Card (if this card is still in hand at the end of the round, gain $3), and Lucky Card (1 in 5 chance to increase multiplier by 20x, 1 in 15 chance to win $20).
♠ Seals Enhancement ♠
This enhancement method has four versions, distinguished by different colours. They are: Gold Seal (earn an additional $3 when this card is played and scored), Red Seal(retrigger all accompanying functions of this card), Blue Seal (at the end of the round, if this card is still in hand, obtain the Planet card of the final played poker hand), and Purple Seal(when discarding this card, immediately create a Tarot card).
